December Snowflakes

I loved my bulletin board or snowflakes. It was simple to do the snowflakes. I made a copy and they cut it out and glued sprinkles on. It was our winter scene of a tree and snowflakes.

Seasons Book

The students made a season book. It was a simple book in which they had to say what they do in that season, one page for each season. It helps with writing with capitals, punctuation, sequence and they wrote a personal narrative!

Main Idea and Details Turkey

The kids cut their feathers and painted this turkey. I  read a Thanksgiving story and they gave me the main idea, I typed it and put it above the turkey. Then they wrote details on the feathers. We glued the feathers to the turkey and displayed him in our school hall.

Fall Bulletin Board

We made fall leaves and put them on a bulletin board. I had a parent, who was amazing put it all together!!
I loved the Owl and we made our own owls...

Haunted House 1st Grade

So we got a refrigerator size cardboard to make a haunted house!
We drew, painted (I cut-too dangerous), and put spiders and cobwebs on the haunted house.
The students loved that they got to walk into the haunted house. As a journal write they had to explain what was inside the haunted house. One student wrote: I see spidrs! ther are spider webs! ther are bats! ther is a crookid fers! ther are mumees! ther are skeletins! ther are vampiuers! ther are zombies! aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

Received a Donation

I got a rug from a donation. I chose the style so we can talk about it for Science and for Social Studies. In Social Studies I had my students learn the continents through singing a song,
"I Got the Whole World in My Hands". (sing this line 4 times, then...)
-"I got North and South America in my hands"
-"I got Europe, Asia, Africa in my hands"
-"I got Australia, Antartica in my hands"
-"I got the whole world in my hands"

In Science what are the essential things that animals need to live (the symbols on the rug)
We even talked Math and what the symbols on the rug stand for.

Art in October

We painted like Jackson Pollack, flinging paint!
This is definetly a popular art activity for 1st graders.
I find the trick with having little kids do art is to STOP them before they start making it too mushy. I've worked with 3 and 4 year olds creating watercolor art. They have beautiful uninhibited paint strokes but you have to have a trick to get them stop before it gets muddy.
